How It Works
TeaNovel follows a three-step workflow that keeps things simple.
Step 1: Capture
Our Chrome browser extension works with supported source sites so you can import novels into your TeaNovel account without manual copy-paste.
No copy-pasting. No manual formatting. Paste a novel URL into the SmartImporter on your dashboard, and the extension handles the supported-site capture in the background.
We currently support JJWXC, Qidian, QDMM, and Fanqie.
Step 2: Translate
Once a chapter is captured, our AI translation engine goes to work. We use advanced language models optimized for fiction and web novels, with special attention to:
- Dialogue and narration balance: Chinese web novels have a distinct voice, and our models preserve that.
- Honorifics and cultural terms: We handle the nuances that make web novels feel authentic.
- Consistency: Our terminology management system remembers character names and terms across chapters.
You can translate chapters one at a time on the Free plan, or queue multiple chapters on Starter and Pro.
Behind the scenes, TeaNovel uses a shared translation cache. If another user has already translated a chapter, you get the result instantly without waiting. This saves time and keeps costs down for everyone.
Step 3: Read
Translated chapters open in our built-in reader. It is designed for long-form reading with:
- Clean, distraction-free typography
- Customizable font sizes and themes
- Chapter navigation and progress tracking
- Cross-device sync so you can pick up where you left off
The reader works on desktop and mobile, so your novels travel with you.
Features That Make a Difference
Terminology Management
Chinese web novels are full of recurring names, places, and made-up terms. Get these wrong, and the reading experience falls apart.
TeaNovel includes a terminology system powered by Named Entity Recognition (NER). Our AI automatically identifies and tracks proper nouns throughout a novel, and you can review terminology entries to understand how key terms are being handled across chapters.
This matters for series with dozens of characters, magic systems with unique vocabulary, and world-building that relies on specific terminology.
Shared Translation Library
When you translate a chapter, you are not just creating content for yourself. You are contributing to a shared library that benefits all users.

- You request a translation of Chapter 5
- TeaNovel checks if someone already translated it
- If yes, you get the cached version instantly
- If no, our AI creates a fresh translation and stores it for future readers
This approach keeps costs low and speeds up the experience for everyone.
Flexible Credit System
We use a credit-based system that scales with how much you read. Credits are consumed based on Chinese source text length and character count:
- Chinese: 1 credit per 100 characters
Japanese and Korean credit rates will be announced when those languages launch.

Free gives you 1,000 credits per month to try the service and translate shorter works.
Starter at $4.99 per month includes 10,000 credits and unlocks batch translation for multiple chapters.
Pro at $14.99 per month provides 50,000 credits and export options for readers who want to take their translations offline.
